Lion Breweries

The new $250 million Lion Nathan national headquarters on a 16.7ha site in East Tamaki incorporates three significant buildings including offices and a four-level 16m high glass fronted brewhouse featuring a two-storey high Lion emblem.  Green principles are a significant aspect of this impressive development.

Systems

In the office areas, chilled water is supplied from the Lion Process Glycol at -6°C and circulated through a Plate Heat Exchanger. Heating hot water is supplied from the Lion Process Waste Heat at 65°C and circulated through a Plate Heat Exchanger.

Chilled water and heating water is reticulated to serve five Air Handling Units in two plantrooms. The air systems were a mixture of VAV and constant volume systems depending on the conditioned space requirements.

The packaging and warehouse area is supplied mainly with ventilation only via eight large supply air handling units situated on the roof. There are also approximately 30 large extract fans located throughout the area.

The project

This is an enormous building site for which Airpro has fabricated and installed the sheetmetal ductwork. The ductwork in the packing area was installed at the unusually high level of approximately eight metres.

The site is made up of three main buildings. The two-storey office area incorporates open plan offices, a server room, laboratories, a bar, gym and changing rooms.

The brewing process area includes coolrooms for hops etc , a brewhouse and brew control room.

The packaging and warehouse area is a massive 300m long by 160m wide.
